LOW-KEY PIANO LESSONS FOR AGES 11-17
Parents come to me when they want to see their teenager rave about their lesson that day…running to YouTube to “figure out the chords” for the Beatles song they just worked on with me.
We help them love it so much that they also:
Wake up to practice on their own each day.
Master as many as 50+ tunes within 3 months!
Even record a whole album of piano music for their family to listen to!

NO FIGHTS AT HOME ABOUT PRACTICE
Lessons are once a week, though some students also perform at our “mini recitals” so they can build their chops & confidence!
With almost 15 years of teaching experience, I will help your teenager feel that their progress is shorter, easier, and confidence-inspiring than at other studios. They will leave each lesson energized and clear about what to do…the opposite of the traditional stuffy piano lesson.
No fights at home or feeling like you are “prodding” them to practice…it just won’t feel like a chore to them.
WHAT WILL MY TEENAGER BE ABLE TO DO WITH THIS?
Music is fun! I guide them through the less motivating parts so they see the rewards faster than they expected:
The skills to teach themselves Camila Cabello or Christmas songs after only 4 months…
The self-confidence to introduce a song they’ve worked on for weeks and perform it in front of other kids their age…
As they advance, opportunities will open up for auditions at performing arts schools, colleges, and internationally-recognized exams that formalize their progress…making their successes through middle and high school objective and undeniable.
And if they put music “on the side” after a year or two of lessons — that’s okay too. They’ll have the start of their own creative outlet they can call on to deal with the frustrations and vicissitudes of life. That alone is worth all the tedium and effort — it’s something most adults grapple with too late.
EFFECTIVE AND WITHOUT THE "KNUCKLE-RAPPING"
Your teenager has to learn the basics first…to read music. This could feel like a slog for them…and for generations it has been like that for most kids…
A slog. A burden for them. Like homework. Not great.
Yet I make the inevitable tedious parts feel fun for them…that’s what I do best. I bring an encouraging and supportive vibe. We make jokes, work hard, but keep it light and low-key all at once.
As one parent put it:
“…We can’t believe how much he’s progressed from January 21 (when he started) to March (the recital at the library) to now (TWO HANDS! reading music! chords!)
None of this comes easy to Marcus. But he’s really enjoying his musical journey.”
COMMUTE TO YOUR LESSON IN 3 SECONDS
The transition from in-person to online was seamless…some of our students have seen more success working online! This experience is safe, social, and convenient.
Students read their piano books off-screen for 60-70% of each class…the rest of the time they check-in with me for strong synchronous learning time. And home practice — “home rehearsal” as our parents say — still feels easy for them.
Once it makes sense to open back up, in-person lessons are available too…I plan to offer an online/offline “hybrid” so that students get:
— 30-60 minutes more practice time with me each week than they would get at other studios
— More confidence-boosting performance experience each month than they can get at a typical studio
— Easy & convenient scheduling so that the entire experience feels pleasant for families
